How to use
In Vitro:
Phenethyl alcohol has been shown to interact with the cytoplasmic membrane of other microorganisms in various ways. Escherichia coli phenethyl alcohol, at a concentration higher than that used to induce myxospore formation, inhibits growth by causing a breakdown in the cellular permeabihty barrier. At lower concentrations, phospholipid synthesis, uptake of gentian violet in E. coli and the uptake of several amino acids by Neurospora crassa were all inhibited by phenethyl alcohol.
