Checkpoint kinase (Chk) is a protein kinase involved in cell cycle control. Two checkpoint kinase subtypes, Chk1 and Chk2, have been identified. Chk1 is a core component of the genomic monitoring pathway and a key regulator of cell cycle and cell survival. Chk2 is a protein kinase that is activated in response to DNA damage and participates in cell cycle arrest.
