Description
Iridium complexes exhibit high luminescence efficiency and long emission lifetimes, making them suitable for near-infrared (NIR) or visible-light bioimaging. The maleimide unit enables covalent binding to thiol-containing biomolecules (e.g., proteins, antibodies), enhancing imaging specificity. It can enable deep-tissue NIR-II imaging with reduced background noise. Photoactivated iridium complexes generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) for PDT. The high-efficiency covalent bonding between maleimide and thiol groups ensures precise accumulation in target areas. Maleimide-mediated targeting improves tumor accumulation, while iridium’s intrinsic anticancer activity synergizes with chemotherapy.
